Intriguing New Healthcare Career Option: Patient Advocate
Posted on February 19, 2008 | Filed Under Health Professions, Job Market | Leave a Comment
I am a firm believer in patient empowerment. I’m a healthcare professional, but I’ve also been on the patient side of things my whole life, as I have a number of allergy-based chronic illnesses. That, and I’ve helped guide my mother through a number of life-threatening health crises in the past year. As a patient, or caregiver of a patient, you absolutely MUST know how to navigate the health care system and to stand up for your rights!
What if you could take that passion and knowledge, though, and parlay it into a whole new healthcare career? Even if you don’t have specific healthcare knowledge or training?
Well, you can… in a career as a patient advocate.
- Are you already in healthcare, but looking for a career change, perhaps to something a bit more rewarding?
- Do you have people skills you’d like to apply to the healthcare field?
- Are you a caregiver who has successfully navigated healthcare on behalf of someone you love?
- Are you an creative person looking for a cutting edge market niche?
- Do you have time on your hands and would enjoy helping others, perhaps as a volunteer?
- Are you interested in doing something in healthcare, but you don’t have the time or interest to go back to school for years to get a degree in nursing or some other healthcare field?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, then a career as a patient advocate might be a good fit for you. There are many ways you can go with this career, depending on your particular interests and background. To begin researching this career, you can use this search box:
